The mighty Ford Mustang GTD American supercar might well cost more than double its original list price.
The Mustang GTD was billed as the ultimate version of the Ford stalwart, turning the muscle car into a fully-fledged supercar.
However, the fastest American car to ever lap the Nürburgring might end up costing far more than Ford had originally envisioned.
With an original price of $325,000, there is a chance that some buyers will pay double – perhaps even more than double, thanks to a multitude of reasons.

The revelation around the cost of the supercar comes thanks the Matt Farah talking on his The Smoking Tire podcast.
In a recent episode, Farah mentioned how he was talking to a collector at an American motoring club event about the Ford.
Farah said: “He was very concerned about his GTD order because what he was told originally would be about a $300,000 car with the options and the track aero kit and all the things you get.”
Farah then said the owner was told the final number for his payment ‘started with a six.’
That had caused a lot of distress for the collector, who might not be able to afford the Mustang GTD anymore.

Ford initially stated that the retail price for the GTD would be $300,000 when the application process opened in 2024.
That had risen by $25,000 by the summer but many still felt they could put up with that rise.
In fact, out of the 1,000 that are to be made, over 7,500 people had signed up for it.
Some of the extra cost can be put down to this particular collector adding options and extras to the car.
There are multiple ways in which customers could customize the GTD, including with the colors.

The Mustang GTD, being a limited-production high-performance car, will also have seen costs rise.
It is unlike nearly any other Mustang ever made, with its closest relative the current Mustang GT3 that races at Le Mans.
The Ford Mustang GTD is a monster, with its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 producing at least 800hp.
And it did of course, become the fastest American car ever around the Nürburgring.
So you might pay nearly $700,000, but you do get a lot of power for your money.
