Old habits can be hard to break, but this anti-EV driver has proven it can be done when he made the switch from diesel to electric.
Martin had badmouthed electric cars for years.
But now he is speaking the words of the converted, as he’s now driving a Tesla.
What convinced him to make the switch? His YouTuber friend, ChargeheadsUK, did some investigating.

From diesel to electric – how did it happen?
To go from a modified diesel Ford Ranger to a Tesla Model 3 is a big change.
“I was very, very anti electric car,” Martin admitted.
“I used to [make fun] of my friend who had an electric car.

“I used to go up [towards his house] and rev as hard as I could.”
When a friend brought him along on a Tesla road trip to Germany, that’s when things changed.
He was impressed with the comfort of the car, but that wasn’t the main motivator – cost was.
Seeing the low costs of charging was enough to make a convert out of Martin.

Despite the slightly higher costs of insurance, it was evened out by the lower costs of…well, pretty much everything else.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard someone cite costs as a reason to switch – this US owner was singing the same tune.
How had Martin’s friends reacted to his switch from electric to diesel?
“A couple of friends have basically disowned me,” Martin joked.
“A couple of friends are calling it a milk float.
“But I love it. The car is so powerful.”
He did have one thing that he wanted the higher-ups at Tesla to remove.

“The karaoke…” he sighed.
“It’s so irritating. I have to hear [my family] singing in the car while I’m trying to drive. It’s irritating.”
He’d better steer clear of this Wicked-themed Lexus then, or else he’d be defying gravity just to escape.
Anti-EV drivers are changing their minds more and more these days
For as many EV fans there are, there will be just as many people on the side of the naysayers.
But more and more critics are changing their tunes – particularly when they get to try the cars out for themselves.
These four EV haters were given the chance to drive two electric cars – a Skoda Enyaq Coupe and an Elroq.
By the end of the video, two had changed their stances, and one was teetering on the edge of conversion.
This retired bus driver also reconsidered his opinion on EVs when he got to sit inside a Tesla Model 3.
But not everyone is so easy to sway – as this YouTuber discovered when he took his anti-EV dad out for a spin in the Cybertruck.
Ah, well, you can’t win them all.
