In China, there’s an apartment block with a fully operational railway running through its middle floors – but that doesn’t stop people from living there.

Located in Chongqing, a city in the southwest of the country, this apartment block has a railway running between its sixth and eighth floors.

The Liziba station was launched back in 2005 and features a lot of the amenities you’d expect at a train station – toilets and vending machines, for example.

But the fact that people live above it certainly helps it stand out.

When video of this railway in action made its way to Reddit, people were stunned.

And it’s easy to understand why – the scene looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Many people would have issues with their apartment being too close to a train line, often citing noise pollution as a factor.

But the people living above the Liziba station in Chongqing are closer to the railway than most.

And no, this apartment block didn’t have its middle section cleared out to accommodate the train.

The station and the apartments were planned and built together in one structure.

While the seven lower floors serve as part of the station, the other 11 are residential dwellings.

Fortunately for the people living here, the high-rise has been built with noise reduction systems that can reduce the sound of trains traveling through.

As you might expect, the sight of a train passing through an apartment block has become something of a draw for tourists.
