As the tech giant is set to roll out its impressive iOS 26 update, it looks like Apple CarPlay and AirPods are set to work together for the first time.
The pressure is on for Apple to make sure that its new iOS 26 update hits all the right notes when it comes to its automotive applications.
Given that a wealth of companies are waiting with bated breath to see how Apple CarPlay works with its new overhaul, it’s a make-or-break moment for the infotainment software system.
But having already promised some great features, it now looks like another stroke of genius has been added, which allows CarPlay and AirPods to work together.

Apple CarPlay and AirPods set to become a dynamic duo with iOS 26
The iOS 26 update is already making impressive improvements to Apple CarPlay, adding brand-new features that can change your car completely.
Specifically, the video player feature is set to make your journeys much more entertaining.
But now it seems that the company is employing even more interactivity between its products, as Apple CarPlay and AirPods are becoming a dynamic duo.
Thanks to the ‘automatic switching’ feature on the earphones, the iOS 26 update is making it so that the AirPods will connect seamlessly to CarPlay, as soon as you step foot inside your car.

Much like how the earphones can switch between the music on your MacBook and the TikToks on your phone, they will now automatically connect to your car.
This means that you can get map directions or hands-free phone calls straight to your ears.
Given that some manufacturers are planning to make their own alternative system, this is a big move for Apple.
It’s always safety first
While it’s all well and good to have seamless transitions between Apple products, it’s worth noting that using earphones while driving isn’t recommended.
While there are no laws against using products like AirPods when driving, the noise-cancelling aspect could be detrimental, especially when taking into consideration the position of other drivers on the road.
Some states even fine people for being ‘distracted’ by using earphones.

Still, Apple is really upping the ante when it comes to its automotive applications, and we could soon see even more features work with our cars.
You might even be able to leave your car keys at home when wearing an Apple Watch…
