Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a new doorbell camera that comes with Face ID to unlock your door.
A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has claimed the new smart home device could be released as early as next year.
The doorbell camera would make use of Apple’s Face ID technology to unlock the door automatically meaning you’ll never find yourself locked out again.
Pretty smart, right?

Apple is rumored to be working on a smart doorbell with Face ID
It’s been a quite an interesting year for Apple, alongside its usual iPhone launch, it also announced it was scrapping the much-talked-about Apple Car project and was then rumored to be turning its attention to robotics.
There’s since been plenty of speculation that Apple could be leaning more heavily into smart home tech that’s centered around its proprietary Apple Intelligence.
One such item, according to a report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, is a new doorbell camera – similar to those you can buy from Ring or Google.
However, unlike other doorbell cameras on the market, Apple’s will be fitted with Face ID that will work in a similar way to the iPhone.
The smart doorbell will be wirelessly connected to a deadbolt, so that when you approach the door, the camera can scan your face and unlock the door automatically.
The tech giant is said to be boosting its smart home offerings
Gurman says the smart doorbell will most likely work with the existing third-party locks that are already compatible with Apple’s HomeKit protocol.
However, he goes on to say that the tech giant could potentially team up with a ‘specific lock maker to offer a complete system on day one’.
Its also suggested that the doorbells will make use of Apple’s upcoming Proxima wireless chip and its security features which help to keep customers’ data safe – exactly what you’d expect from a home security system.
The report claims that the doorbell camera will be launched alongside an ‘AI-infused smart home hub’ that has a six-inch display and a new operating system that has been specially designed an built to control the home, play videos, and run FaceTime.
So it looks like 2025 is gearing up to another busy year for the tech giant.
