If you have ever fancied your own racetrack, now is your chance, as the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in California is up for sale for $26,000,000.

It isn’t often that full racetracks end up on the market, but the recent sale of Willow Springs shows that there is interest in them, even if they do cost a substantial amount of money.

Chuckwalla Valley Raceway is located three hours outside of Los Angeles, and is now on the market.

The asking price of $26 million indicates the value that some have placed on these incredible venues.

Why is Chuckwalla Valley Raceway up for sale?

The circuit spans over 1,000 acres of land, and its $26 million price tag is certainly substantial.

It follows on from the recent sale of Willow Springs to a private equity firm.

There are, however, some concerns about the sale of the racetrack.

A popular location for track days, the costs of these have been steadily rising over recent years.

But the sale of Willow Springs saw those costs triple, from $180 a day before the sale to $340 a day.

Rental rates have tripled as well.

So there are concerns that Chuckwalla’s sale will lead to similar rises in the cost to drive at the circuit.

Chuckwalla is a wonderful-looking circuit with good facilities, so it would be a shame to see the same happen.

The history of the Chuckwalla circuit

Chuckwalla Valley Raceway first opened in 2010, and is in Desert Center near Joshua Tree National Park.

Despite being in the middle of nowhere, it’s become one of the key track day locations in the Los Angeles area.

The area was initially part of a training ground for General Patton’s soldiers in World War II.

The track itself sits on the former main air supply depot.

Parts of its past remain, most notably the transcontinental radio beacon tower.

Following the war, the area reverted to farmland, with plans to create a waterskiing and waterboarding facility.

Even though it’s in a remote location, the circuit has been popular over the years and is a superb track to drive.

Hopefully, concerns over the future of the track end up being unfounded.
