Audi’s latest concept car, the Audi Concept C, has been branded a ‘step in the right direction’ as the carmaker says it will ‘pave the way for the future’.

The all-electric was unveiled last month, and quickly drew comparisons to the iconic Audi TT.

The two-seater features a slick design, with an open-top roof, and was inspired by the Auto Union Type C and the third-generation Audi A6.

Although the car is just a concept, the prototype vehicle is fully drivable.

The Concept C EV will ‘pave the way for the future’ of Audi

Unveiled last month, the Audi Concept C features clean lines and a bold rectangular grille at the front.

The rear of the car has quad-element LED and slats running up the back; there’s also no back window.

Much like the outside, the carmaker has kept the interior minimalist with strong architectural surfaces, natural materials, and geometric forms that are designed to keep it ‘free from distractions’.

Its minimalist design isn’t to everyone’s taste – in fact, Mercedes design boss Gorden Wagener had some pretty harsh words for it – but others love it.

Commenting on an article about the Concept C on Top Gear, one fan said he wasn’t keen on ‘overfussy vehicles’ and branded the design ‘a big step in the right direction’ for Audi.

For what it’s worth Audi appears to be on the same page.

The carmaker said the EV ‘embodies the brand’s new design philosophy and paves the way for the future’, meaning we’ll probably be seeing more sleek and uncomplicated designs in the future.

Is the concept car going into production?

The Concept C is just a drivable prototype for now, but Audi wasn’t using a figure of speech when it said it was paving the way for the future.

Audi’s CEO has confirmed that the two-seater sportscar will go into production.

“Every concept we present is backed by a definite production decision. This means that the Audi Concept C is not a vision of the distant future, but a concrete preview of a production vehicle,” Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said

The EV is slated to go into production in 2027 and will be made at the Audi’s Böllinger Höfe plant.
