Audi is building a new sports car focused on electric performance to reignite interest in its lineup after years of stalled momentum.

The car will be fully electric and will sit between the TT and R8 in Audi’s lineup.

A concept version is scheduled to debut at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich this September, with production confirmed within two years.

It’s the clearest signal yet that Audi wants to reassert its identity through a flagship project instead of relying solely on volume sellers.

A new sports car to reset the tone

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the model is meant to act as an identity builder that reflects the brand’s future direction.

He acknowledged the company has lost ground in recent years, stating, “We need to get back on track now.”

The car is known internally as TT Moment 2.0, referencing the success of the original Audi TT.

However, this new sports car is not a direct successor to either the TT or the R8.

It’s positioned between the two, with a focus on design and driving feel rather than extreme performance figures.

Audi has confirmed the vehicle will be fully electric and a key part of its electric performance roadmap.

A production version is already in development and expected to arrive within two years.

The company has also delayed its all-electric transition timeline.

Originally planned for 2032, the deadline has now been pushed back, allowing models like this new sports car to help shape the shift on Audi’s terms.

Pressure, platforms, and product plans

The new car is being built on a dedicated platform rather than one shared with Audi’s existing EVs.

This gives designers and engineers more flexibility in setting proportions, handling, and weight balance.

Final specifications haven’t been released, but Audi has confirmed the concept will debut a new visual identity for both interior and exterior.

The timing is significant. Audi’s global sales fell by 11.8 percent in 2024 and continued to slide another 5.9 percent in the first half of 2025.

Senior executives inside Volkswagen Group have voiced concerns, labelling the current lineup “average.”

In parallel, Audi is launching a separate China-only EV brand, also called AUDI, which will offer electric cars without the Four Rings badge.

These vehicles will not be available outside of China and are not tied to the core Audi performance strategy.

This new sports car represents an effort to steer the brand back toward relevance while adapting to new market demands.

Audi is treating the project as a high-stakes product, one intended to show what electric performance looks like when applied to a focused, enthusiast-led model.

Whether it can shift momentum remains to be seen, but the intent is clear.
