The Audi Sport Quattro is a special, special car.

The Sport Quattro is a homologation variant of the street-legal Quattro, released to the public in late-1981.

This car, with it’s four-wheel drive systems and inline-five engine was an instant hit, especially in the World Rally Championship (WRC).

And now, one YouTuber has had the chance to test one.

Why is the Audi Sport Quattro so special?

The YouTube channel OG Schaefchen is officially the source of jealousy everywhere.

The German channel had the chance to test drive a homologation model Audi Quattro S1.

In 1984, this car won both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ championships in the WRC.

Stig Blomqvist would pip teammate (and reigning World Champion) Hannu Mikkola to the title.

Now, Schaefchen had the chance to drive that homologation car.

Lap of Lapland in legendary car

Schaefchen found himself in Lapland, at a training facility owned by his friend, Nils.

Nils is lucky enough to own the Audi Sport Quattro in question.

And he handed Schaefchen the keys to take it for a test.

He starts off by throwing the Quattro around a few bends and corners, remarking at how easy it is to control.

The understeer is immediately obvious, although Schaefchen is able to use it to slide the car very well.

Then, Nils emerges to take Schaefchen around in the passenger seat.

From the co-driver position, he points out how impressive the suspension is; being a lot softer and absorbent than normal suspension would be.

Schaefchen, who is not an Audi fan, admits: “I really like [the Sport Quattro]”

YouTuber nearly destroys priceless Quattro

In an epic shot from the video, Schaefchen slides past his friends in the snow, before realising something is wrong.

The accelerator suddenly loses all feeling. He is fearing for the worst at this point.

Thankfully, he gets the car stopped, but the accelerator is, indeed, broken.

Luckily, no major damage is done.

A piece of rubber held the accelerator cable to the pedal. That rubber had perished over time, and simply broke off.

The crew simply got some sticky tape, and the car was back in business.

In conclusion: Audi Sport Quattro is a masterpiece

Schaefchen concludes the video by remarking on the experience.

He said: “I am still a little speechless.”

“This car is a masterpiece, and I think I understand the hype now.”

“It felt like it was even easier to drive the car hard than it was to drive the car normal.”

Does anyone know the way to Lapland? Anyone?
