There’s a little-known aviation loophole anyone can use to book a private jet flight at a fraction of the cost.
The first thing we should point out is that this loophole has nothing to do with rules and regulations, it’s just related to the dynamics of private flying.
It is, however, a neat way to save money on something that most people perceive as unanattainable.
There’s one thing worth remembering, though.

A little-known aviation loophole
Most celebrities use private jets, but few actually own one.
This is because private jets are incredibly expensive to run, even if you’re wealthy.
You’re looking at six or even seven figures a year just to keep the plane running and airworthy, and that’s without including actual time in the air.
Most high-net-worth individuals charter one, but their plans are flexible, which means that a significant number of private jet flights end up being one-way flights.

This is what most people refer to as the ’empty leg’, a neat aviation loophole that allows you to save money.
Because the plane will have to get back to base, and it’s going to have to do it regardless of how many people are on the plane, the return flight is way cheaper to book.
Thanks to this loophole, you can slash the cost of a private jet flight in half or more.
Loop Aero, for example, is an online aggregator (kind of like Skyscanner but for private jet journeys) that puts together all available empty legs for that day or that week.

A journey from Paris to London aboard a mid-size jet will set you back around $6,000 instead of $12,000.
And remember that’s the price for the whole plane, and the plane has nine seats, which means you can further split the cost.
Assuming you can bring eight more people on board, you’ll be spending $600-700 per person, give or take.
Not bad for a private jet flight.
Several companies are trying to democratize private jet flights
Several aerospace companies are trying to come up with new and innovative ideas to make private and business flying cheaper.
BeOnd, for example, is an all-business Maldivian carrier that will take you from Europe to the Maldives for less than a ‘traditional’ airline.

Then there’s Black Aero, a California-based company that’s offering seats aboard an Embraer (the same jet used by corporate travelers across the globe) from several cities in California to New York, Colorado and Nevada.
The main problem is that these businesses are actually not very profitable, so whether they still exist in 10 or 20 years remains to be seen.
So, take advantage of the offers now.
