Bentley has just confirmed the return of a legendary nameplate – the Continental Supersports is back.

It is a revered moniker that once represented the world’s fastest luxury sedan.

The iconic British marque has made the official announcement on its website.

And it is promising a big, bad, and bold return for the Continental Supersports.

The Bentley Continental Supersports is back!

Well, well, well – this really could be a return for the books.

Because Bentley has made a potentially enormous announcement about one of its nameplates.

But this doesn’t concern any old model – it concerns one of its most legendary.

That nameplate, of course, is that of the Continental Supersports.

In an interesting twist, the brand only put out a very brief statement on its website.

“The return of an iconic name to Bentley is imminent, 100 years after it was first introduced.

“This will be a rare Bentley – and one that is raring to perform. Another extraordinary car, coming soon,” is all it said.

Of course, gearheads everywhere will accept just how important that model is.

First introduced back in 1925, it impressed from the very beginning.

It came with a 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine that made 70hp, with a top speed of over 100mph.

Details are few – but exciting

So, what exactly is the new Bentley Continental Supersports going to look like?

To be entirely truthful, very few details are actually known at this point.

Thanks to Autocar, however, we do have a few more details than we did before.

For one thing, the new version is expected to look very different from the old Continental Supersports.

The previous version came with a 7.0-liter W12 engine producing 700hp.

But the new Continental Supersports is expected to come with eight cylinders, yet with less horsepower.

The report suggests that the new car will have Bentley’s twin-turbo V8.

It is suggested that this engine will produce around 640hp.

A lot of carbon fiber can be expected for weight-saving purposes, which will help it get from 0-60 in about 3.1 seconds.

The return of the Continental Supersports should provide a big shake-up to the luxury sedan market.

And that shakeup could come as early as the beginning of next year.
