Bentley gives Mat Armstrong a shock with its verdict when he takes his rebuilt Continental GT in for a 'proper' service

A rebuilt Bentley Continental GT left YouTuber Mat Armstrong stunned after the luxury carmaker delivered a brutal verdict during what was supposed to be a routine service appointment.

After buying it for $13,396 (£10,000), the creator had spent months bringing the first-generation supercar back from the brink, pouring time, effort, and money into the project

But despite finally getting the car back on the road, he still wasn’t convinced everything was working as it should.

So he decided there was only one place to take it for a definitive answer: Bentley itself.

Bentley did an inspection that uncovered more than 100 problems

Armstrong originally picked up the Continental GT supercar for a surprisingly low price and set about restoring the luxury grand tourer to its former glory.

While the project appeared to be a success on the surface, lingering issues convinced him to book the car in for what he described as a ‘proper’ service with Bentley.

The result was not what he was hoping for.

After inspecting the vehicle, Bentley reportedly identified more than 100 faults and issues throughout the car, the lengthy list covered a huge range of problems, but one discovery stood out above all the others.

Technicians found that the cheap Continental GT’s engine mount had cracked, causing the car’s massive W12 engine to sit at an angle.

That might sound like a relatively minor issue, but the shop warned it could affect the car’s alignment and potentially impact safety.

The rebuilt Continental GT verdict didn’t stop Mat Armstrong from completing his ambitious road trip

Despite the daunting repair list and the prospect of yet more expensive fixes, Mat Armstrong wasn’t ready to give up on the project.

Instead, he pushed ahead with his plan to get the car sorted and embark on a road trip to Monaco, determined to enjoy the Bentley after all the work that had gone into rebuilding it.

A used Bentley may be available for a fraction of its original price, but maintenance costs can remain every bit as expensive as when the car was new.

For Armstrong, though, the shocking verdict from Bentley was just another obstacle in a project filled with setbacks.

And after spending so much time bringing the Continental GT back to life, there was never much chance he was going to walk away from it.
