BMW M sends a strong message to all the electric car haters as it previews new EV

BMW M has issued a clear message to electric car sceptics as it prepares to enter its next era of performance electrification.

It comes as a simple challenge: don’t judge electric M cars until you’ve driven one.

The brand’s high-performance division is moving toward its next generation of models, including a fully electric M3.

The German brand is already pushing back against criticism before the car even arrives.

BMW M sends a message to EV critics ahead of its new release

The German automaker BMW has a strong stance on EVs.

The company believes that lots of negative opinions about performance EVs stem from people who have never actually experienced one behind the wheel.

Instead of debating theory, the brand is encouraging drivers to judge the cars based on real-world driving experience.

That messaging comes as BMW M prepares to launch its first dedicated electric M3, internally referred to as the M3 ZA0.

It is part of a wider move for the brand as it begins integrating high-performance electrification into its main lineup, but is still trying to keep the spirit of the M badge alive and kicking.

BMW M leadership, including figures like Sylvia Neubauer in an interview with BMWBlog, emphasized the importance of direct experience when it comes to forming opinions about the brand’s new EVs.

The preview gives away its next moves

The upcoming electric BMW M3 has already been previewed through the bold M Vision Neue Klasse concept, which showcases BMW’s new design.

While still a concept, it is expected to strongly resemble the final version.

Reports suggest the new electric car could have an output of between 800 to 850 horsepower, placing it firmly in super-sedan territory and signaling that BMW M is aiming for a good performance reflecting a gas-guzzling equivalent.

Despite the shift toward electrification, BMW has also made it clear that it is not abandoning internal combustion M cars just yet.

Instead, the brand is planning a parallel approach, where EV and petrol-powered performance models will coexist for the foreseeable future.

For BMW M, the goal is not just to defend its new electric car, but to redefine what an M car EV can be in the electric age.

Whether enthusiasts agree or not, the brand is betting that the first drive will do most of the convincing.
