Footage shared by Boeing shows a 747-8 Freighter rolling down the runway at over 200mph when the pilot suddenly slams on the brakes.
This isn’t a mistake, it’s one of the most extreme certification tests an aircraft can face: the rejected take-off.
Loaded to nearly one million pounds, fitted with brakes worn down to the studs, and banned from using thrust reversers, the jumbo has to stop itself the hard way.
Smoke pours from glowing orange wheels as the jet grinds to a halt, holding steady while firefighters wait five long minutes – simulating the delay it would take them to reach the plane in a real emergency – before stepping in.
