This video of the Bugatti Tourbillon went viral because people were finally able to listen to the sound of the V16 engine.
First announced at this point over a year ago, there was a lot of curiosity surrounding the Tourbillon and, more importantly, its powertrain.
Partly because this is a Bugatti, but also because most people were expecting Bugatti to downsize, and they didn’t.
And when it comes to the engine noise, as you can see from the comment section, a lot of people loved it, but a few people in the comment section weren’t impressed.
Other strong contenders
It is difficult to objectively define something as subjective as the sound of an engine.
But it’s a crucial but: if you look at ‘top 10 best-sounding cars’ listicles, you’ll always find the Porsche Carrera GT and the Lexus LFA.
That can’t be a coincidence.
The Jaguar F-Type SVR is also often featured, along with rowdy pony cars or muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger Demon or even the Dodge Viper.
Though, at that point, we’d have to have a separate conversation to establish whether the Viper counts as a supercar, a sports car, a muscle car, or all three.
But those top 10 listicles will now have to be updated with the addition of the Bugatti Tourbillon.
The Bugatti Tourbillon sounds like a riot
The Bugatti Tourbillon comes with almost 1,800 horsepower, 16 cylinders, and eight exhaust tips.
With that in mind, it was easy to predict a pretty loud, pretty aggressive V16 engine note.
The thing is, no one knew what it actually sounded like until recently, when the video you can watch (and listen to) below went viral.
Even through the screen, you can clearly tell this is a very loud car.
Some cars have sort of raucous, low-note, growling engine noises.
Like listening to Vin Diesel say ‘family.’
The Tourbillon sounds more like a cheetah or a leopard that’s about to charge.
Or like a motorcycle.
Somebody in the comment section wrote that it ‘sounds like a Ducati V4.’
“Sounds like a Yamaha R1 M crossplane engine,” another added.
Not everybody agrees, though.
One user said that the Lexus LFA and Porsche Carrera GT are listening to this and yawning.
We’ll leave it up to you to decide who’s right and who’s wrong.
