The solar-powered Aptera EV is one step closer to production after securing access to $75 million in funding.

The California-based solar mobility company has been working on this EV for a while, and it’s been making good progress.

And now the company is about to go public, which means expectations will be higher than ever.

There’s only one glaring omission, though.

This startup wants to revolutionize mobility

Aptera, which is both the name of the company and the vehicle, is a solar-powered electric vehicle that wants to revolutionize mobility by building a vehicle that’s theoretically 100 percent clean.

Or as close to 100 percent clean as you can get.

Aptera is about to go public on the NASDAQ, which means that everything about the company’s finances has to be transparent and available to the public.

And this is how we learned that the company had only about $13 million left in the bank, which is not great for a startup.

Fortunately, Aptera was able to secure an additional $75 million, which should be enough to get them to the finish line.

The glaring omission we mentioned earlier, which is also the bad news here, is that we still don’t have an ETA for the actual production model.

But hopefully it’ll be here soon.

We certainly hope so because spec-wise, this looks promising.

The Launch Edition should come with 201hp and 400 miles of range, but the goal is to also develop a model with 1,000 miles of range.

According to Aptera, the integrated solar cells can provide up to 40 miles of range per day in sunny conditions, which is not bad.

About Aptera

The Aptera EV was first announced as a concept car in 2023, and then the company began testing a working prototype about a year later.

When they showcased the car to the public at the 2025 CES in Las Vegas, the company said it had already received 50,000 pre-orders, which is pretty impressive.

Part of the reason why we still haven’t seen a production model is that the company wants to make sure the vehicle is as perfect as it can be.

They’ve been testing the EV on grueling road trips, including in the desert, with excellent results.

With a bit of luck, we won’t have to wait much longer for a production version.
