A driver who was pulled over in Fullerton, California tried to use a Monopoly ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card to avoid trouble.
Instead of handing over his license, he confidently presented the bright orange gaming card to the officer along with his papers.
The moment caught the officer off guard.
But was it enough to dodge the citation?

Monopoly Get Out of Jail Free card IRL
This cheeky Californian driver decided that he was going to try and get out of a traffic citation using a game piece from a board game that has famously nearly split families up during Christmas hangouts.
The incident happened in Fullerton, during a routine traffic stop for a violation.
When the officer approached the window, the driver reached into his wallet and slid the Monopoly ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card forward.
The officer’s reaction was surprising, and his department even shared the encounter on Instagram to make a point.

When the Fullerton Police Department later shared the encounter on Instagram, they made it clear that while the creativity was appreciated and laughs were had, the laws still applied.
The officer issued the citation as usual, but not without enjoying the unexpected attempt at board game bribery.
The Instagram post quickly picked up momentum, partly because the card looked almost brand new, as if the driver had been waiting years for the perfect moment to use it in real-life Monopoly.
The department’s lighthearted caption saying ‘#aforeffort’ only added to the fun, giving the story instant viral potential.

Try an Uno reverse card next time
When the story hit social media, people found it hilarious, and many declared the driver a legend.
Another popular board game, UNO, jumped in with a perfectly timed burn, its comment read: “try a reverse card next time.”
One commenter wrote “Technically they didn’t go to jail… so it worked.”
Unfortunately, the Californian driver may not have avoided the ticket, but he definitely won the hearts of the internet.
