Living on the road might not be as uncommon as it used to be, and more citizens across the United States – just like this engineer from Southern California who moved into a camper van – are making drastic lifestyle changes.

Paying rent in California can be quite the task, even if you’re earning six figures.

It clearly wasn’t a satisfactory situation for this engineer, so he decided to ditch the comforts of a proper roof and moved his belongings inside a Ford camper.

It might not seem like much, but he was quite confident about his new home.

California engineer to live in a camper van to save on rent

We’ve had people living on cruise ships, so a camper seems perfectly normal now.

There have been some cases of people living inside converted airplanes, too.

Meet Nick Logan, a full-time engineer who now lives in his converted camper van and shared his plan in a YouTube video.

It’s not that he wasn’t making enough money from his full-time commitments, but the prices of owning — or even renting a decent home in areas like Ventura County were sky high.

By the way, Ventura County is the region in SoCal where Nick had been living for half a decade, but it was time for things to change.

He bought a 2008 Ford E350 that came with a pre-installed 4×4 conversion kit and further modified it so that the vehicle could accommodate his belongings.

He excelled at that because, looking at the video, the van uses all the real estate, and even the most minor gaps are calculated insertions so he can fit something in them.

At this point, you would be wondering why he didn’t simply move to a more affordable area.

It’s a great place, without considering the rent

The only problem with California for Nick seems to be the insanely high rent, but he loves everything else about it.

Moreover, Nick has several hobbies, including surfing, golfing, and biking.

Although these might not seem relevant, California is actually an ideal place for Nick to pursue his hobbies while remaining punctual at his day job.

Nick has also done a great job of ensuring he has everything he needs inside his camper van.

While we have seen some pretty wild camper van conversions, this one is subtle yet functional.

The video showed the camper with plenty of storage space, a full-sized bed, and essentials so he can sleep peacefully.

Food and showers, however, are a different story.

He plans to eat from local outlets and shower at the gym because the camper van doesn’t have a kitchen or shower.

The engineer planned to move in permanently on October 1, so he will likely make another video about finally moving in soon.
