This Californian car lover snapped up a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 for less than the price of a Toyota Corolla, and he reckons it could be the most luxurious car you can buy for the money.
The W222 S-Class was produced between 2013 and 2020 as a successor to the W221 S-Class.
This generation also saw the revival of the Maybach name, with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class the first model produced for the lineup in 2015.
While this example, bought by one of the team behind the The Middle Lane YouTube channel, isn’t officially a Maybach, as it was released in 2014, it still offers plenty of luxury.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 was in great condition
Let’s face it, we all love a bargain, and one YouTuber managed to land himself a great deal on a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 4MATIC.
The S550 is powered by a 4.7–liter V8 engine that produces up to 450 horsepower.
And this specific car had 122,000 miles on the clock.

But as the car enthusiast pointed out, ‘you see these cars with these high mileages, and they’re fine because it’s a Mercedes’.
The YouTuber noted that the Mercedes did have a couple of marks and scratches, but nothing out of the ordinary for a car that’s more than a decade old, and certainly nothing that took away from the overall luxe-feel of the S550.
Heaping praise on the vehicle, he said it was ‘affordable, relatively modern, and seemingly not bad on reliability’.
Above all else, he said it was ‘absolutely gorgeous’, and it’s hard to disagree.
The Mercedes S550’s clean lines and sleek bodywork make it look seriously high-end, but its interiors really amp up the luxury.
In fact, the YouTuber bought the car to be his daily driver, but said it was actually a bit of shame that he didn’t get to spend time relaxing in the spacious rear cabin, which comes with heated cup holders, tray tables, heated, ventilated massaging seats, and more.

You can also block out the world at the touch of a button, thanks to the automatic window shades, and with a wheelbase that’s just three inches less than a Maybach, there’s plenty of room to stretch out.
The Californian car lover snapped up the Mercedes for a great price
When new, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 came with a price tag of around $92,900 for a base model, or about $95,900 for the all-wheel drive 4MATIC version.
However, more than a decade on since its original release, you can pick up a S550 for around $12,000 – but the guys from The Middle Lane reckon it’s worth spending a little more to get something a whole lot better.

In total, the car lover parted with just $16,000, which, for some context, is less than what you’d be expected to pay for a new Toyota Corolla.
And, according to the YouTuber, it’s absolutely worth it.
“It’s the best $16,000 car you can buy,” he said.
