YouTuber John Ficarra recently shared his experience driving from Montana to the Arctic Ocean in a modified Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
This was a 2,767-mile journey, through some of the most remote terrain in North America.
The goal? Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, which is 250 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
It began in Columbia Falls, Montana, and the stars of the trip were two 2015 Porsche Cayenne 958 Turbos.

This epic journey happened in 2023, and Ficarra recently recounted his experience with VINwiki.
The team included former Cannonball Run record holder Ed Bolian, car historian John Ficarra, and Hermosillo, co-founder of the Montana-based tech and design firm SWAE.

Each Porsche packed a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 520 horsepower, 553 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 160 mph.
These weren’t just stock SUVs either, although certain Cayenne variants are clearly capable of being some of the fastest SUVs around.
SWAE outfitted them with Firestone tires, Braid wheels, rock sliders, custom bumpers, auxiliary lighting, and plenty of gear for emergencies.
The team loaded up spare fuel, full tool kits, tire repair kits, CB radios, first aid kits, and even 3D-printed storage shelves where the glove boxes used to be.
This may seem like a huge load, but given that the Porsche Cayenne is capable of towing an Airbus A380, this really isn’t that big of a deal.
The Cayennes had everything needed to survive one of the most remote drives in North America.

According to Ficarra, the Porsches were a treat to drive, at least compared to his previous Arctic expedition, where he drove a 50-year-old Jaguar XJ6 off a cliff.
“Where driving the Jaguar was like waiting for it to explode and die, these Porsches were sublime. They were magnificent,” the self-professed Porsche fan said.
Clearly, the pair of Porsches were a significant upgrade over the old Jag.

Their route included wildfires in the Yukon, ice-covered mountain passes, and hundreds of miles without gas stops, food, or cell service.

The most intense stretch came on Alaska’s Dalton Highway: a 414-mile gravel road packed with semis and sharp stones.
Thanks to Hermosillo’s CB radio diplomacy, truckers often pulled aside to let the bright orange Porsches pass.
Despite the harsh terrain, the Cayennes performed flawlessly.
The team reached Deadhorse, Alaska, and made it to the edge of the Arctic Ocean.
After nearly 3,000 miles of wilderness, the message was clear: the road to the Arctic isn’t just for explorers, but for anyone bold enough to try.
In fact, this man proved it by driving an Audi R8 that survived a hurricane to the Arctic Circle.
