California man discovers exactly where the Sultan of Brunei keeps his $5 billion car collection

A YouTuber and photographer traveled from California to Asia to find out more about the car collection of the Sultan of Brunei.

Everyone knows the Sultan has one of the largest car collections in the world, but very few people have actually seen it.

Apart from in pictures, of course.

The California-based YouTuber in question asked Prince Jefri, brother of the Sultan of Brunei, if he could see the car collection and, amazingly, he said yes.

There are over 7,000 cars in the Brunei Royal Family collection, but with a catch

Prince Jefri, brother of the Sultan, is the gatekeeper of the whole car collection.

And it’s a massive collection.

Most sources agree it includes around 7,000, including hundreds of Rolls-Royces and dozens of Bentleys.

But, according to Larry Chen, reality is different.

When he traveled from California to Brunei, he found out that each member of the royal family has his or her own car collection, which means that if we look at the collection as a whole, the number is much bigger than 7,000.

When Larry Chen asked Prince Jefri if he could check out the collection(s), the answer was a no, but it wasn’t a firm no.

Chen was able to find out where the vast majority of the cars were located, in various buildings, but the entrances were guarded by military personnel.

Then, employing a significant amount of patience, Chen eventually got a yes as an answer.

The reason why so many of these cars are not in good shape

It is hard to pinpoint the exact models in the collection, but leaked images are at least painting a slightly clearer picture.

What we do know is that there is a huge selection of Rolls-Royce – statistically the largest in the world – and an unconfirmed number of custom-built Bentley luxury cars.

We’re not talking about customized production models; we’re talking about actual one-off vehicles created specifically for the Sultan of Brunei.

Ferraris make up a large portion of the fleet, including the epic F90s, of which six were built in total.

Sadly – but we sort of already knew this, as this is becoming common knowledge at this point – some of these vehicles are being neglected.

What we didn’t know is that so many are in even worse condition than we imagined.

But there’s a reason for that.

The photographer traveled to a complex called Bantree, in an area called Jerudong, and the pictures he took – as you can see here – reveal that some of these cars are almost write-offs.

Bantree houses most of the cars which, crucially, are owned by the Sultan himself.

So many cars are actually sort of ‘scattered’ around the area, including several workshops.

And when he went to the workshops, he talked to some of the people who look after the collection, and he found out why some are neglected.

“It’s very hard to get parts here,” one of the mechanics explained.

“Sometimes we have to ship them abroad first, for example to Australia, and it takes months to get them back.”
