It’s been four months since this Californian creator quit his job to chase YouTube full-time.
He’s been throwing money at his Honda S2000 and throwing himself at the algorithm.
Now he’s sitting down to count the cost.
And the final figure shows exactly what chasing a dream on four wheels really takes.

How much this YouTuber spent modding his Honda S2000
Conner, from YouTube channel mellow_conner, has been pouring his savings into a Honda S2000 ever since he quit his job four months ago to chase YouTube full-time.
It’s the car at the center of his channel – a high-revving project he films on California’s back roads.
And now he’s breaking down every dollar it’s taken to keep it moving.
The big-ticket parts came first.

He spent $1,678 on HKS Hypermax S coilovers to sort the suspension, $760 on a set of wheels from 1320 Performance, and $410 on a used HKS Hi-Power cat-back exhaust he found online.
New tires were another hit – $314 for the rears, $293 for the fronts.
Then there were the styling tweaks, which luckily stayed on the cheap side.
A painted rear lip for $80, an eBay front lip for $70, and $300 on vinyl wrap material and tools – the same bumper wrap project that spiraled into a two-day DIY war – read about it here.

Under the hood, the spending was more about reliability than flash.
A valve cover gasket and spark plug seals set him back $163.
An oil change with Honda’s pricier blue filter added $60.
And a replacement ignition coil with four new plugs came to $100.
Even living in back-road country didn’t cut fuel costs much – roughly $350 has gone straight into the tank.
And then there’s the filming kit, because YouTube doesn’t run on vibes alone.

A used GoPro Hero 12 cost $220, a DJI Mic Mini another $300, plus mounts to strap cameras anywhere he needs them.
By the time the receipts were stacked, Conner was staring at about $5,800 in sunk costs after just four months.
His return?
Exactly $0.00.
Not monetized, no sponsors.
For anyone else, that number might be discouraging.
For Conner, it’s just the price of building the car, chasing the drive, and keeping the channel alive.
Conner’s YouTube journey so far
If you’ve followed Conner, none of this is out of character.
He’s already admitted his channel runs in the red but still calls it his dream job, choosing passion over profit every time.
He’s poured time and money into experiences with zero return beyond the fun.
Like hauling gear into the forest to build a makeshift drive-in theatre so his friends could watch Top Gear under the trees.

Or packing an S2000 and a Porsche 911 with tents for a 1,000-mile road trip through California’s coast and redwoods, proving you don’t need the ‘right’ car when the company’s good.
That’s Conner’s whole deal.
The finances might look brutal on paper, but the payoff isn’t money.
It’s wide open roads and an audience who feels like they’re riding shotgun.
For most people, $5,800 in four months would feel like a loss.
For Conner, it’s the price of chasing the only return he’s ever really wanted: a story worth telling.
