He braved sub zero temperatures to really see if the charging capability is really all that it is cracked up to be.

Driving his car to a super charging point in Saskatoon, Canada.

And, it turns out, that he was blown away by the battery’s performance.

He wanted to get his Tesla from around 15 percent charge to 80 percent

So, the YouTuber, known as Frozen Tesla, braved the -25C degree weather to put it to the test.

He drove to a supercharger point and put it in preconditioning mode to kick things off.

And, despite the battery’s icy temperature, it started charging at 72kW- swiftly increasing to more than 130kW giving the motorist a welcome surprise.

He gained a whopping 10 percent in just four minutes.

16 minutes in and the battery was already at 50 percent – proving that temperature is no match for the battery.

It did slow down to 80kW but, which the motorist says is technically slow, but nevertheless, still pretty impressive, taking the conditions into account.

He managed to secure 60 percent charge in just 35 minutes in -25C degree conditions.

As time continued and the charging time decreased, so did the speed- but the Tesla owner wasn’t worried as he simply wanted what was best for the battery.

The amount of charge being pumped into the battery impressed him in the mere minutes that it took.

In fact, it reached 40 percent charge just 20 minutes after being plugged in, and took another seven minutes to reach an impressive 50 percent- all in sub-zero temperatures.

He set his charging limit to 77 percent after plugging his Tesla in at just 17 percent.

After admitting that he ‘was expecting a lot worse’, the car took just 35 minutes to gain an impressive 60 percent of battery, with the man confessing that he was shocked at how much work the preconditioning of the battery really did.

Tesla itself states that the Model S has no issue charging in freezing temperatures: “Model S pre-heats the high voltage battery to ensure when you arrive at the charger, the temperature of the Battery is optimal and ready to charge.

“This reduces the amount of time it takes to charge.”

And, when it comes to finding a Supercharger – do not fear as your Tesla will locate one close to you itself, taking the worry and stress away from you.
