Did you know that there are some car brands that don’t support Apple CarPlay in their vehicles?

Apple’s phone mirroring has become one of those make-or-break features for a lot of drivers shopping for new cars.

It lets you throw your familiar apps, maps, music, and messages onto the car’s screen without learning a whole new system.

For many people, it’s now as expected as Bluetooth or a backup camera, but a few big names still refuse to play ball.

These are the car brands that don’t support Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay is a very popular feature in lots of new cars, but there are a few car companies that haven’t gotten on board.

Tesla has never offered Apple CarPlay across its lineup, and is not exactly shy about it.

The company leans hard on its own interface, plus the advantage of deep integration with its Supercharger network.

That tight connection helps with route planning, charger availability, and navigation decisions in a way CarPlay cannot fully replicate.

Tesla owners also get frequent over-the-air updates, which keep the system feeling fresh, even without Apple’s iconic ecosystem.

Rivian is in a similar camp with the brand positioning its software as part of the product, not an optional extra.

Because the vehicle knows its own battery status, temperatures, and route conditions, Rivian can bake those features into range predictions and charging plans.

It can even sort out the battery for faster charging when the navigation is routing you to a charger.

Rivian has added features like Google Maps integration, but it has also been clear that Apple CarPlay is not going to be part of the Rivian driving experience.

General Motors has banned it going forward

General Motors is the most complicated case, because the company has supported Apple CarPlay in plenty of current models.

The shift is happening with newer EV launches, where GM has chosen not to include CarPlay going forward.

That puts brands like Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac under the same umbrella decision.

GM’s pitch is that a built-in system can be faster, more integrated, and better aligned with the car’s features.

Critics point to another incentive: if drivers cannot rely on CarPlay, they are more likely to pay for the automaker’s connected services and data plans to get app-like functionality in the cars.

Anyway, it’s a notable move, and one that has already sparked plenty of backlash from buyers who see CarPlay as non-negotiable.
