Car buying expert shares the phrase that 'will always save you money' with salesmen as they 'hate to hear it'

When you’re buying a car, it’s important you know what to say – so it’s a good thing this car buying expert has revealed the one phrase that will save you money.

We’d all like to feel in control when haggling at a car dealership.

And we’d all like to save money too.

This car buying expert has one simple phrase that he believes can achieve both ends, noting that salesmen ‘hate to hear it’.

The one phrase that a car buying expert can save you a ton of cash

TikTok creator Billythecarkid regularly shares advice online.

It’s obviously something people need to hear, because let’s face it, a car dealership is an intimidating place to be.

With that kind of pressure, you’d be expecting something really strategic and nuanced in terms of advice.

But actually, this phrase is striking in its simplicity.

“Let me think about it.”

That’s really all there is to it.

Bill explained that this phrase was effective because it would signal to dealerships that a customer wasn’t desperate to make a deal.

That left the hypothetical buyer more likely to head over to a rival dealership and spend their money there.

This leads to salespeople being more willing to strike up a deal, and can save you hundreds in the process.

However, this advice isn’t unconditional, as he did insist upon one caveat.

“If you’re getting a great deal already from the dealership, there’s no reason to look a gift horse in the mouth,” he said.

In other words, don’t push your luck.

There’s no shortage of car-related advice on the internet

In the world of cars, there’s always someone who’s dishing out some advice.

After all, we all had a first time doing something, right? Why not share the knowledge?

For learner drivers, this instructor had some pearls of wisdom that he gave out to drivers taking their tests.

And then there was this former car saleswoman who divulged some secrets about how buyers could haggle their way to a better price.

The internet gets a lot of bad press, but when it comes to advice, it’s a treasure trove.
