The all-new Mercedes AMG C63 S is here and it is ready to change the game with the most powerful 4-cylinder engine ever created.

It was developed in-house using Mercedes’ F1 technology and it delivers a whopping 680 hp.

The C 63 S is a continent crusher, available in sedan or wagon, but it is also a track-friendly monster.

Its hybrid engine gives you the ability to drive in all-electric ‘Dr. Jekyll’ mode in full silence and comfort.

When you’re in the mood to turn into Mr Hyde, all you have to do is push a button on the AMG Performance steering wheel and opt for ‘Sport-Plus’ or ‘Drift’.

In Sport-Plus, the steering wheel is more precise and the suspension stiffer.

In addition to that, the car’s ‘brain’ sharpens the throttle response and the exhaust system’s valves open to give you a more menacing sound.

Alternatively, you can have some old school fun in ‘Drift Mode’, thanks to the car’s 100 % rear-axle steering.

About the powertrain

The new powertrain is guaranteed to divide opinions because it isn’t a V8.

AMG decided to replace it with a highly technical 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine inspired by AMG’s F1 program.

It’s turbocharged but it is also equipped with an electric motor located on the rear axle, which makes the AMG C63 S a four-wheel-drive performance car.

The gas engine produces 476 hp, while the electric unit puts out an additional 204 hp.

With a combined power output of 680 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque, this is by far the most powerful 4-cylinder powertrain in the world.

Mercedes-AMG says the car can accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.

The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

About E-Performance

E-Performance is a sub-division of Mercedes-AMG that specializes in high-performance vehicles using hybrid power.

The GT 63 S 4-door was the first car created under the new brand, delivering 639 hp from a 4.0-liter V8.

As the brand transition towards electric and hybrid power, we can reasonably expect a E-Performance version of most flagship models.
