It appears the CS badge is making a return for the G80-generation M3.
That’s right, BMW has announced it’s adding a new, special-edition BMW M3 CS to its product range in 2023.
The BMW M3 CS features a modified version of the high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine, with M TwinPower Turbo technology, developed for the BMW M3 and BMW M4.
The modifications result in a maximum of 550 hp, a considerable upgrade of 40 hp in peak output compared with the BMW M3 Competition.

More power and less weight means the new BMW M3 CS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and on to an electronically limited 303 km/h (188 mph) top speed.
Like the F80 (previous) model, the new M3 CS is sold only with an automatic transmission, but there’s a key difference.
The new BMW M3 CS has xDrive, with selectable RWD, whereas its predecessor had RWD.
Aside from packing extra horses, the M3 CS has been on a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRB) diet, losing approximately 75 pounds (34 kilograms).
The hood, front splitter, air intakes, side mirror caps, rear diffuser, and trunk lid spoiler are all made from CFRB.
Weight has also been saved with the use of a titanium exhaust silencer and carbon fiber for the center console, shift paddles and the bucket seats, among other things.
Finishing things off nicely on the car pictured here is this gecko-friendly Signal Green paintwork.
Customers aren’t stuck with this green paint, though, as BMW will also be selling the super sedan in Black Sapphire and Brooklyn Grey metallic paints, with a Frozen Solid White Individual color.
BMW says it will build the M3 CS in “limited numbers” but hasn’t revealed an exact number.
What we do know, though, is that the model will be built at the company’s Munich plant from March 2023, with its phased launch getting underway the same month.
The USA, Germany, the UK and Japan are the most important markets for the new special-edition model.
The sporty sedan is priced from $118,700 (plus $995 destination and handling).
