Koenigsegg Agera RS seized by Chinese customs sells at a huge discount

This carbon fiber Koenigsegg Agera RS has just sold at a huge discount after being seized and auctioned off by Chinese customs.

Another Koenigsegg, a 2018 Regera, was also sold off at the auction.

The Koenigsegg Agera RS in question, chassis no. 7178, has exposed carbon fiber bodywork with ‘Chili Red’ accents.

It also features custom made leather seats with the word ‘ZHEN’ embroidered on the headrests.

A brand-new one would set you back around $4 million but this one sold for ‘just’ $2.67 million.

So why was it so cheap?

The fact that it was part of a government auction played a part, as did the customized seats.

Having said that, the main reason is these hypercars need constant maintenance.

And this vehicle had barely been touched in three years.

Ironically, while a $2.67 million Agera RS might qualify as a ‘bargain’, the same can’t be said about the Regera.

It fetched $3,518,000 and that’s more or less what you’d pay for a brand-new model.

But there’s a twist: this is the only Koenigsegg Regera in Mainland China.

Both cars were originally seized by the Chinese government in 2019 and spent three years in a warehouse in the Port of Tianjin.

The government sometimes sells the seized vehicles, as it did in this case, but unfortunately other times they simply destroy them.

That’s what happened about a year ago in the Philippines.

The government seized 21 illegally imported exotic vehicles and decided to destroy them ‘to deter future offences’.

It was a heart-breaking scene.

The list included a Lotus Elise, a Porsche 911 and a McLaren 620R, of which only 350 were built.

The total value of the destroyed cars was estimated to be well over $1 million.
