With money comes jaw-dropping mansions and palatial penthouses.
But life hasn’t always been like this for these famous faces.
From Rihanna to LeBron James, these are the celebrity homes before and after they made it big.

Rihanna’s humble bungalow
Robyn Fenty, aka Rihanna, was born in Barbados where she lived between the ages of five and 16 in this humble bungalow.
She occupied the property on Westbury New Road (renamed Rihanna Drive in 2017) with her parents and siblings.
In 2005, Rihanna moved to the United States where she went on to become a major recording success, selling more than 250 million records.
The pop star has spent her riches wisely, buying, renting and flipping numerous properties over the years, including this one in Los Angeles.
The imposing 12,000-square-foot property, known locally as ‘The Fortress’, has a tough steel-and-concrete façade and plenty of security features, making it the perfect ultra-safe hideout.
The interior is just as imposing as the exterior, with 60-foot-high ceilings and towering glass windows, and an entryway leading to an array of living rooms finished in stone, concrete and steel.
John Travolta’s colonial home
The youngest of six children, John Travolta was born and raised in Englewood, New Jersey.
The actor, best known for his performances in Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction, spent his childhood years living in a colonial home in the New York City suburb.
The modest 1,753-square-foot family home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms – a far cry from Travolta’s life today.
The Grease superstar has a number of mansions to his name, but none quite stands out as much as his Florida home.
The $10 million mansion in Ocala isn’t just a luxury five-bedroom home, it’s also a private airport.
The 7,600-square-foot mansion sits on a 550-acre estate, which includes a 3,600-foot runway and space to park two of the actor’s jets right outside his home.
Selena Gomez’s quaint childhood home
A world away from the glitz and glamour that surrounds her today, Selena Gomez was born and raised in Texas.
The actress and singer grew up in the small city of Grand Prairie in Dallas County.
Gomez and her mother, Mandy, lived in this quaint, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home until she was 13.
The star has come a long way from her modest childhood home, building an impressive property portfolio over the years.
In April 2020, Gomez invested in a beautiful house full of wellness features for $4.9 million, which was custom-built by the late singer-songwriter, Tom Petty.
Located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Encino in LA’s San Fernando Valley, the mega-mansion boasts six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a zen yoga studio, massage room, and gym.
LeBron James’s Akron upbringing
Many regard LeBron James as the greatest NBA player of all time, however, the four-time champion’s journey to success hasn’t been easy.
Growing up, James and his mother Gloria had to change their apartments multiple times in Akron, Ohio.
At one point, James lived with his football coach Frank Walker, who introduced the then nine-year-old to the game of basketball.
Despite a troubled childhood, James has developed into one of the best and richest athletes in the world.
When the basketball star joined the Lakers in 2018, he purchased a 15,846-square-foot mansion in LA for $23 million.
The eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom estate boasts a gated driveway, an “auto gallery” (fancy name for a garage), oversized pool and spa, theater room, wine cellar, cigar lounge, indoor/outdoor gym, and rooftop terrace.
