This man discovered what happened when you put Cessna 172 engines on an Airbus A320.
YouTuber Swiss001 wanted to experiment with two radically different planes.
In size alone, these two couldn’t be further apart.
But would this be a case of opposites attract?

Putting Cessna 172 engines on an Airbus A320 – a recipe for disaster or a stroke of genius?
To be clear, this wasn’t a real-life scenario.
No, Swiss001 was doing all of this through a flight simulator, which most certainly makes things a lot easier.
You don’t have to be an aircraft technician to play around with these engines.
At any rate, he was curious about whether Cessna 172 engines would work on an Airbus A320.

“Both are planes, both can fly, but both are so different of course, especially in engine power,” he said.
“[The A320] has 46,000 horsepower, and the [Cessna] has a whopping 178 horsepower.”
So quite a drastic difference, you might say.
On paper, this absolutely shouldn’t work; it’s almost comical to imagine the tiny little Cessna engine powering the gargantuan Airbus A320.
And the A320 isn’t even as big as a plane can get – take this photo of it next to an A380 as proof of that.
On the first round of the experiment, one Cessna engine was put on the A320.

As you might expect, it didn’t move.
With three engines in place, the plane still didn’t budge even with full power.
When things got bumped up to 10 engines, the plane began to move slowly but take-off was still out of reach.
At 16 engines, there was more speed but flight was still not achievable.
You don’t have to be an aviation expert to know that a plane that can’t fly isn’t much good.
Unless it’s a fabulous bar in Palm Springs that allows you to sip cocktails inside, that’s the exception.

How many engines would it take to get this plane flying?
So what would be the magic number of Cessna engines to get this Airbus A320 soaring through the skies?
A staggering 600.
Admittedly, with 16 engines, you could have some movement if you spawned the plane midair.
But that’s obviously something you can only really do on a computer simulator…for now.
You can have a lot of fun on flight simulators, whether it’s taking on a ultra-difficult challenge or seeing if you’ve got what it takes to be a Boeing 737 pilot.
