The upcoming Chevrolet Captiva EV SUV is set to land in multiple markets across the globe, but it won’t be released in the United States.

Chevrolet launched the original ICE-powered Captiva as a concept vehicle back in 2004.

It was sold in numerous markets, including Europe and Australia, but not the US.

Now, an EV version is on its way, but – much like its predecessor – it won’t be sold in the States.

The Chevrolet Captiva EV SUV is based on a Chinese model

Believe it or not, despite facing tough competition from the likes of Tesla and Rivian, the fastest-selling EV brand in America is Chevrolet.

Forbes reported that Chevy not only surpassed Tesla in the fastest-growing EV brand category but also overtook Ford as the country’s second-largest EV automaker – impressive stuff, right?

However, the marque’s upcoming Captiva EV SUV won’t be landing Stateside when it’s launched.

The new Captiva is based on a Chinese model called the Wuling Starlight S – or the Xing Guang S.

General Motors, Chevy’s parent company, recently revealed images of the Captiva EV in Brazil, giving us our first look at the upcoming SUV.

The car appears to have several design elements based on the Wuling Starlight S, and features an almost identical rear end.

However, it’s been altered slightly at the front with the Captiva EV having narrow LEDs and a large grille.

The car won’t be coming to the US market

As yet, technical specs have not been shared by General Motors, but for what it’s worth, the Wuling Starlight S has a range of around 510km (317 miles) and can hit 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 7.7 seconds.

For now, the Captiva EV SUV has only been confirmed for the Latin American market and is set to land in Brazil later this year.

“Chevrolet has announced yet another new product,” said Vice President of GM South America, Fabio Rua.

“It is the Captiva EV, a mid-size electric SUV that will complement the brand’s portfolio here.

“The Captiva EV is a strategic product within Chevrolet’s global electric vehicle line and will be launched in Brazil by the end of the year.”

However, it’s also believed the Captiva EV could also be coming to other markets, including Africa and the Middle East, but don’t expect it to be arriving in the US.
