It looks as though Chrysler’s quietly backing away from its big EV plans, after a delay was confirmed in January.
Back in 2022, the company said it would launch its first EV in 2025 and transition to an all-electric lineup by 2028.
However, it now looks as if the brand is backing away from these pledges.
It’s part of a wider shift within the car industry.

If you were to look at the landscape of the automotive industry, you would easily assume that EVs are the future.
We’ve got big brands like Tesla and BYD leading the way, but it’s not just those big names.
Chevrolet, Ford, and Rolls-Royce have also joined in the EV revolution.
Chrysler’s another brand that had big ambitions to go electric.
With a first EV set to be released in 2025 and an electric crossover planned in 2026, things were looking promising, initially.

But now, it appears that the launch has been pushed back ‘until further notice’.
Some of the higher-ups at Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, have been talking about the brand’s future.
Chrysler’s design chief, Ralph Gilles, during a recent interview, said the company was looking to ‘experiment’.
“I think it’s time for us to pivot,” he told Auto News.
“We’re going to try. We’re going to experiment with the brand.
“There is an unserved part of our portfolio in our showroom that our dealers have identified that we can maybe serve with Chrysler, so we’re in the process of experimenting.”

Back in January, Chrysler told all suppliers to suspend spending on electric crossovers.
In an email shared with suppliers, obtained by Mopar Insiders, Chrysler was seen telling suppliers:
“[The] C6X (CA) program has been put on hold until further notice. Therefore, any spending associated with this program should be suspended immediately.”
C6X was the codename for the electric crossover.
At the time, Chrysler said that the crossover had been delayed, but wasn’t dead.
“Chrysler brand CEO Chris Feuell confirmed the program is paused for now as we assess the market and our customers’ needs and wants,” the automaker said in a statement.

“The future for Chrysler is bright with a refreshed Chrysler Pacifica coming in 2026, a new crossover coming soon after, and a third product, inspired by the Halcyon concept, to follow.”
It remains to be seen how this will play out.
