Get your conspiracy books out, as a new interstellar visitor to Earth has split opinions between the CIA and NASA that really tickles that Area 51-type scratch.

When it comes to extraterrestrial activity, many believe that the public information is only a shroud of what the stargazing authorities really know.

So, when any discrepancies come out between bodies like NASA and the CIA, it can only mean one thing: aliens.

Well, not quite, but something isn’t adding up when it comes to this 10-billion-year-old object in space that appears to be coming close to Earth, as the two agencies identified it as different things.

A 10-billion-year-old ‘alien’ object hurtling towards Earth has experts scrambling

Back in October, a group of astronomers from Spain’s University of A Coruña identified an object, roughly 5km wide, that is hurtling through the Milky Way and could predate our planet.

Named 3I/Atlas, the large object was originally deemed to be a unique look into the history of the galaxy, slated as a ‘window into the Universe’s past’, due to its outrageous age.

But what actually is the object?

Well, a month after it was discovered, NASA released its own studies on the space object, using the Hubble Telescope to get clearer images than before.

There, NASA revealed that this age-old interstellar visitor was a comet. Nothing more than your common burning rock, putting any hopes that it could be a spaceship to rest.

That was, until the CIA got involved.

CIA and NASA split on whether suspicious interstellar visitor is alien life

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request sent to the CIA regarding 3I/ATLAS was met with resistance, with the Intelligence Agency claiming it couldn’t reveal any information regarding the supposed comet.

“The CIA can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of records responsive to the request,” the FOIA response said, citing that if the records do exist, they are protected under the National Security Act.

Straight off the bat, this sparks conspiracy.

In the words of Harvard professor Avi Loeb:

“That fact this information is treated as sensitive enough to be classified by the CIA is surprising, given that NASA officials stated decisively at a press conference that 3I/ATLAS is definitely a comet of natural origin.”

Why else would they hide the records if it was an open-and-shut case of space rock?

Professor Loeb’s own studies suggested that the 3I/ATLAS comet has already shown 12 cases of anomalous behaviour that suggest it might not be as simple as flaming hot graphite.

Harvard researchers already believe that aliens walk among us on Earth; maybe this new comet is really on the way to pick them up.

Or, as NASA insists, the interstellar visitor is an icy Manhattan-sized rock cutting through space so quickly that it’s leaving a glowing trail of dust in its wake.
