Tennessee family comes up with clever way to get bear out of their car after it locks itself inside the SUV

A Tennessee family got a lot more excitement than they bargained for when they spotted a baby bear climbing across the roof of their parked car.

The tiny cub looked completely at home as it wandered over the vehicle, prompting the family to watch from the safety of their home.

But what began as a cute wildlife encounter quickly turned into a nerve-wracking situation when they discovered the cub’s mom was locked inside.

Fortunately, they came up with a clever solution that got everyone out of danger without having to get too close to the animal.

How to lose a bear in ten minutes

The family first noticed a cute cub perched on top of their car outside their log cabin, and he was wandering confidently across the roof, balancing on the rails and looking around as if it owned the place.

The adorable visitor certainly made for an unforgettable sight, but the family’s amusement soon turned to concern.

After all, bear cubs are rarely far from their mothers.

Then came the shocking discovery.

The bear’s mom wasn’t just close to the vehicle – she had somehow managed to get inside it.

Rather than risking opening a door themselves, the family stayed in their other car and looked for a safer way to help the animal get out.

How did the mom get in the SUV?

Instead of approaching the trapped bear, the family used the SUV’s remote key fob from a safe distance.

They remotely opened the trunk, creating an escape route for the angry mom without putting themselves in harm’s way.

The clever plan worked exactly as they had hoped; she climbed out through the open trunk before going back to the surrounding woodland with her cub in tow.

Black bears are naturally curious animals and can sometimes climb onto or even inside vehicles if they detect food or an interesting scent.
