Flying takes lots of training, time, and preparation, but one newcomer pilot defied expectations when he took to the cockpit as co-pilot for the very first time to perform a takeoff.

After racking up hours on Flight Simulator, rookie David decided to show his boss and TV personality, Buffalo Joe, what he was made of.

Tasked with being the co-pilot on a huge Douglas DC-3, it was all systems go – but there was one big challenge.

The big boss needed to be impressed, which was almost as intimidating as the takeoff.

Flight Simulator gave this pilot a fair advantage in the cockpit

Failure to prepare often means that you prepare to fail, but for this pilot, that was never an option.

Over on the Ice Pilots YouTube channel, the guys are no strangers to sitting in the cockpits of some pretty impressive planes.

However, this time, the unexpected became the reality.

Due to a co-pilot quitting before an important flight, one newcomer stepped in to help, and it turned out that he had lots of training under his belt, all thanks to Flight Simulator.

Used by pilots and enthusiasts, Flight Simulator is a useful tool that enables the reality of the cockpit to come to life with the real pressures of pre-flight checks, in-flight actions, and the precision needed for takeoff.

Luckily, newcomer David was a seasoned pro and had already racked up between 60 and 70 flight hours, and was even in charge when others in the team came to use the tool.

However, pressure was paramount, as flying virtually isn’t quite the same as sitting in the real deal.

It was time to perform a takeoff in the DC-3

The plane being used to test his skills was none other than the Douglas DC-3, which was first flown in 1935.

After flying into action, the plane later earned the title of being the ‘most successful airliner in the formative years of air transportation’.

No pressure, right?

As newcomer David stepped into the cockpit and took his place as co-pilot, things got interesting.

Thanks to the enthusiast’s preparation, he knew what to do and when to do it, impressing Buffalo Joe, the boss.

In fact, even though nerves were high, David managed to perform a flawless takeoff and was steady in the air for the duration of the flight.

When the time came to land, the enthusiast continued to impress the boss in the cockpit.

A man of few words, the boss, Buffalo Joe remarked how well prepared the new co-pilot was.

“He came very well prepared for the job he was going to do. If he keeps that up, it’ll be a very smooth road,” said the boss,

So, it was a successful take-off for David, with the new co-pilot earning himself a place in his boss’ good books.
