The presidential limo used by the US President is a heavily modified and bulletproof Cadillac called The Beast, and it’s not cheap.

No one knows where the nickname came from, but it renders the idea very well.

This really is a beast.

And it’s an expensive one at that.

How much does The Beast cost?

It’s nigh on impossible to determine the exact cost of The Beast because no one knows for sure how The Beast is built, and how many exist.

As in, we know the current model is based on a Cadillac, and we know it’s bulletproof, and that’s about it.

Most sources agree it’s based on the CT6 but the truth is The Beast is a Cadillac-based one-off built nearly from scratch.

Details surrounding its customization have been kept incredibly secret. For good reason.

As two US Secret Service agents told Jay Leno in a video in his channel, the car is obviously bulletproof but they’re not allowed to say ‘how’ they bulletproof it for security reasons.

As for the cost, both Fox Business and Reuters agree it would be in the region of $1.5 million per vehicle.

The one thing we know with certainty is that in September 2024, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS, awarded a five-year contract to GM to develop the next-generation presidential limo.

And we know the contract is worth a minimum of $14.8 million and could be worth $40.8 million through to 2029.

We know this because the car will be built using taxpayers money, which is why this contract is public record.

The reason why the DHS keeps everything under wraps

No one knows how many Beasts exist, but we do know there are at least two.

One to transport the US President, and one that’s used as a decoy.

Something else we know, and most people will find this surprising, is that this bulletproof Cadillac is destroyed after being decommissioned.

When the car appeared in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, US Secret Service agents explained a few more interesting things about it.

They explained how it is transported from one country to another, and why it needs to be destroyed.

But the most intriguing revelation is about the name.

Speaking to Jay Leno, the Secret Service agents explained the name is probably just a fan-coined nickname that stuck because the vehicle is simply known internally as a ‘parade limousine’.
