Dacora Motors is officially offering an exclusive insight into the art of luxury coachbuilding.

This ultra-luxury start-up is extremely unique.

It’s not only reviving the age-old art of coachbuilding, but it is also embracing the future as an EV.

And the female-founded marque has been kind enough to offer an exclusive insight into the coachbuilding process.

Dacora Motors is a firm with big goals

Before we get into the coachbuilding process itself, it’s important to remind you about the company.

The name Dacora Motors might not be one that’s entirely familiar to you.

But it is a brand with an extremely interesting origin story.

Based in Hudson Valley, New York, the marque has a truly unique approach.

It is reviving the long-lost art of coach-built cars – and it’s an EV.

So, why has this brand been making such a splash in the ultra-luxury space?

For one thing, it is the first American ultra-luxury car brand in over a century.

It is also the only ultra-luxury car brand founded and led by a woman.

The firm was established by Kristie and Eric D’Ambrosio-Correll, both of whom are MIT-trained engineers.

But what makes the company so fascinating is its philosophy and approach to car building.

With the exterior, you could easily be forgiven for thinking that you’d be transported back in time to the 1930s.

And yet, in the interior, Dacora Motors is the embodiment of modern crafting and luxury.

Physical dials, crafted interiors, and a calmer cabin setup are very much the priority.

Remember how we mentioned that the company also embraces the future?

Its all-electric powertrain provides a total power output of over 800hp.

It’s also expected to provide a range in the 400-mile territory.

Bespoke, custom coachbuilding in full effect

And that backstory brings us to what makes Dacora Motors extremely unique.

The team at Dacora Motors was kind enough to give us an exclusive look at the coachbuilding process.

And to say that it is fascinating and exciting is a bit of an understatement.

First, a lightweight birdcage frame is meticulously constructed, serving as the architectural skeleton of the car.

Dacora’s artisans mount hand-formed aluminum body panels onto this birdcage.

Every exterior panel is custom-painted so that no two panels are ever the same.

They are completely custom and unique to each and every individual client.

Each panel, according to Dacora, is ‘layered, polished, and perfected until the surface reflects like still water.’

A feature that is unique to the marque is the signature wooden hood.

This process begins with a strongback – a rigid frame that establishes the exact curvature of the hood.

Brushed aluminum is inlaid into the surface of the wood, directly fusing past and present.

The wood is carefully cured and then sealed with a combination of a marine-grade finish and an extra protective layer.

Every inch of the exterior is bespoke to you

Once the exterior is completed, it’s time to work on the inside.

And trust us, just as much care is given to your experience inside.

Every seat is custom-fitted and custom-built for each client.

Console modules, veneers, and fabrics are designed to be modular, enabling each car to evolve with its owner.

It all results in a space that is literally one-of-one to each owner.

For Dacora Motors, the heart of the interior is the cutting-edge, see-through dashboard.

It is formed from real wood veneer and is treated through Dacora’s proprietary optical process.

This actually allows light to pass through the wood without compromise.

Much like the exterior, every panel is custom-molded and matched to the dashboard itself.

The wood is sanded, finished, and stained specifically to each client’s requests and tastes.

For Dacora Motors, the vision is very much of creating moving art.

The belief is in using nature and technology to forge the future of the electric age.

And the results are breathtaking!
