Driving on the highway can be unpredictable, but one Tesla Cybertruck owner got a particularly nasty surprise when a chunk of flying metal came hurtling toward his vehicle at speed.

The California man captured the entire incident on his Tesla’s cameras, showing the debris flying up from a Lexus ahead and striking his truck.

He shared the footage to his social media accounts.

Despite the frightening moment, the creator was okay.

Tesla Cybertruck owner captures terrifying moment on camera

In a video shared online, a Cybertruck owner explained that a piece of metal flipped up from behind a Lexus and slammed into his EV while he was traveling at around 70mph.

The footage captured the debris hurtling toward the Cybertruck before making contact, giving viewers a clear look at just how quickly things can go wrong on the highway.

The owner was particularly thankful that his Tesla had been recording the incident, allowing him to replay the moment and see exactly what had happened.

He also revealed that the Cybertruck was in self-driving mode at the time of the collision.

Pointing out the metal in the footage, he showed how it appeared to travel from behind the Lexus before flipping up and striking his vehicle.

The road hazard could catch drivers completely off guard, especially when there’s little time to react.

The flying metal left visible damage to the Cybertruck

After replaying the footage, the owner from Tesla Owners Silicon Valley showed viewers the aftermath of the collision.

The impact left a damaged section on the Cybertruck, with what appeared to be a broken area and visible marks from the flying metal, he also pointed out a smaller scuff elsewhere on the vehicle.

Considering the size of the debris and the speed at which it struck, however, he seemed surprised by how relatively limited the damage was.

The Cybertruck’s angular stainless steel exterior has become one of its most recognizable features, and the incident offered a real-world look at how the vehicle fared after an unexpected impact on the highway.

Still, the footage doesn’t establish exactly how the metal hit the truck or whether any particular design feature prevented more extensive damage.

Tesla owner says safety was the most important thing

Although the damaged truck was clearly frustrating, the owner was ultimately grateful that the situation hadn’t turned into something much more serious.

He finished the video by emphasizing that everyone was safe, putting the incident into perspective after the startling moment on the road.

Flying debris can pose a serious hazard for drivers, particularly at highway speeds, when even a relatively small object can cause damage or create a dangerous distraction.

For this Cybertruck owner, having footage of the incident meant he could look back at exactly what happened – and show others just how suddenly a routine drive can take an unexpected turn.
