In a bout of the American heavyweights, this Chevrolet Corvette C8 faced a wave of Dodge Challenger opponents to see who the real king of drag racing is.

Ali and Frazier, Brady and Manning, Magic and Bird, Chevrolet and Dodge.

The American-on-American bouts of the ages have all lived up to the hype, as Uncle Sam’s white and red stripes are draped over the shoulders of the greats.

But it’s now time to crown Chevrolet or Dodge, as the C8 and Challenger went bumper-to-bumper in an iconic wave of drag racing.

Dodge Challenger duo takes on Corvette C8 in heavyweight drag

Both the Dodge Challenger and the Corvette C8 are icons of the racing scene.

But while the newer models are edging in favour of the C8 – with the Challenger being stuck in the ICE era – the legendary duo is evenly matched for older cars.

So, YouTube team Wheels Plus decided to find out just which American darling was worthy of Uncle Sam’s approval.

The Corvette C8 Stingray went up against two Dodge Challenger foes, one being a 1320 and the other being an R/T.

First up was the Challenger 1320, and if you thought this would be quite an even race, you’d be sorely mistaken.

After taking an early lead, the Challenger soon lagged way behind as the C8’s mid-engine design roared off into the distance.

History would repeat itself, as the Challenger R/T followed suit, crossing the line in the second race over one second after the C8.

It’s clear that Corvette has the edge in the racing department.

Is the Chevy the king of drag races?

Well, it wouldn’t be the first car to beat a Dodge Challenger, as that has already been achieved by a Tesla Model Plaid.

Still, the C8 has floored it against other competitors like a Ford Mustang.

In America, the Corvette C8 looks like a formidable foe.

But throw in some European opponents, and the C8 was left in the dust.

The Chevrolet sports car might soon have to pass the torch over to its younger brother, as the ZR1X has already posted some frightening quarter-mile times.

But for now, it can don the stripes and stars over its trunk and claim the heavyweight belt in the American drag racing department.
