It looked like a once-in-a-lifetime sight – a Lamborghini parked outside Dubai Mall, wearing what seemed to be the holy grail of number plates: just ‘1.’

The photo hit Reddit almost instantly, and the internet lapped it up.

In Dubai, plate numbers are more than ID – they’re status symbols.

And this one looked like it belonged to royalty.

The Lamborghini license plate that fooled everyone

Reddit user SaintTwelve posted the shot, captioned “Unknown Lamborghini with number 1 licence plate outside Dubai Mall.”

At first glance, it looked like the car of royalty.

But the comments quickly flooded in to set the record straight.

“The plate is 1GVR, not 1,” reads the top comment in the thread.

That tiny detail flipped the story completely.

Turns out it wasn’t a single-digit UAE plate, but a Saudi plate with a smaller format that made it look deceptively rare.

Someone else added that the true ‘1’ plate probably isn’t even accessible to the public, likely reserved for the royal family.

Still, the image had everything a Dubai car spotter dreams of: a Lamborghini Revuelto gleaming under lights, a bonus Urus nearby, and a license plate that briefly had the internet fooled.

When a license plate costs more than the car

The initial excitement over the possibility of a ‘1’ license plate makes sense.

In the UAE, rare plates can be worth more than the vehicles they sit on.

Back in 2008, Abu Dhabi businessman Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri paid $14 million for the single-digit ‘1’ plate – a record that still stands.

Even mid-tier plates, like Dubai’s ‘D 5,’ have fetched over $9 million at auction.

A Bugatti Chiron owner’s ‘P7’ plate was reportedly valued at $15 million as well.

Or when Dubai’s ‘F1’ plate sold for more than a fleet of Ferraris.

So yeah, this time might have been a bit off the mark.

But in Dubai, even being close to a ‘1’ plate is enough to stop traffic.
