Potential buyers are showing curiosity toward the new electric Jaguar Type 01 EV.
More importantly, that curiosity is translating into numbers, with over 50,000 people signing up for updates – though no money has actually changed hands yet.
As in, over 50,000 registered their interests with ‘keep me informed’ sign-ups.
But there’s something else that’s even more important.
Why Jaguar built the Type 01 EV
Now, with hindsight, it’s a bit easier to see what Jaguar was thinking.
The original concept car was called the Type 00, which is a number that is often reserved for prototypes that won’t be sold in the open market.
Now, the production model, which by the way looks almost exactly identical to the concept, is called the Jaguar Type 01.
As in, the first vehicle of Jaguar’s new strategy.

Like some tech and automotive creators pointed out, the EV transition is giving some brands the chance to rebrand and try something new, which is clearly happening.
And results aren’t too bad.

Why the electric Jaguar Type 01 is important
The ultimate ‘decider’ is and always will be sales.
But having 50,000 people officially registering a ‘let-me-know-I-might-buy-this’ message is important.

More to the point, roughly 80 percent of those who have signed up are entirely new to the Jaguar brand, having never previously owned a vehicle from the company.
While the high volume of interest is a positive sign for gaining visibility, the true test will be how many of these prospective leads actually translate into firm vehicle orders when they officially open up.
That’s probably the whole point

When it comes to shifting units, most people only focus on one number: deliveries.
While that’s important, there’s another number that’s crucial for automakers.
For a manufacturer, the main priority (along with selling cars) is to make sure their cars reach new clients.
That’s the main reason why everyone, including McLaren, is building SUVs now.

Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini – you name it – they all made it clear that a significant percentage (always over 50 percent) of customers were new to the brand.
With the new electric Jaguar, there’s an extra element.

The Ferrari Luce, for example, is an EV that also looks completely different to any other Ferrari.
And that’s because they wanted to find new customers who had never owned one, and probably would’ve never thought about it.
It’s the same with the new Jag.
