An electric vehicle expert has suggested those waiting to get their hands on a new EV pickup truck should consider canceling their order in favor of an upcoming model from China.

Australian EV expert The Electric Viking regularly shares tech news and reviews with his 280,000 YouTube subscribers.

In one recent upload, he was quick to pile praise on a new Chinese EV truck and even advised people who were waiting to get their hands on a BYD Shark to cancel their order.

So, which Chinese pickup truck was worth all the fuss?

The expert says he would ‘definitely’ choose this EV pickup

BYD unveiled its first electric pickup – dubbed the Shark – last April. 

Deliveries began to roll out late last year, but if anyone was still sitting on a waiting list, then The Electric Viking advised them to drop out.

In a clip shared in January, he revealed that if he had been one of those on the BYD Shark waiting list, he’d cancel his spot. 

“I would probably cancel my order and buy this… actually not ‘probably’, I definitely would,” he said. 

Instead, he told his followers that the Geely Riddara RD6 was a better bet and ‘promised’ to buy one for himself if it arrived in the Australian market this year. 

It’s currently available in China and is set to go on sale in Thailand later this year.

The expert is hopeful that Geely Riddara RD6 will come to the Australian, New Zealand, and European markets – noting that a right-hand drive version has been created. 

What makes the Geely Riddara RD6 worth a buy?

Well, for starters, he says the pickup offers ‘more performance’ than a RAM TRX and it’s pretty darn fast – the dual motor model manages an impressive 0 to 100 km/h (0-62mph) in just 4.5 seconds. 

The expert goes on to reel off the great range of safety features including its bodywork, which is made out of 66 percent high-strength steel, and its six onboard airbags. 

And perhaps best of all, the Electric Viking also believes the upcoming EV pickup could come with a very reasonable price tag starting at around $30,000. 

It also comes with a free home charger and – in Thailand, at least –  its first six services are free, it also comes with free GB internal car internet for a year. 

Looks like this could definitely be one to watch.
