This explorer found hundreds of abandoned cars which had been sitting inside a cave for over 20 years.
YouTuber Exploring With Josh paid a visit to a cave deep in the mountains on the France-Switzerland border.
This cave was home to abandoned Volkswagen Beetles and tons of other cars.
The inside of the caves took Josh’s breath away, and it’s easy to see why.

YouTube explorers sure have a knack for finding cars.
Whether it’s the decaying ruins of the Bugatti headquarters or a shipwrecked USS Yorktown, they’ve got form for finding deserted vehicles.
The Bearded Explorer alone has discovered hundreds in his time, whether it be a F1 car or a Mercedes SLK sitting next to an abandoned house.

For Exploring With Josh, a cave in the mountains along the French-Swiss border was where he’d find a bunch of cars.
You’d be right to wonder why so many cars ended up inside of a mountain.
There are a lot of theories you could float about they got there.
Perhaps they’d be stolen and stored there by a criminal gang?

Or maybe they were there as part of some covert experiment?
According to The Autopian, the Volkswagen Beetles sitting in this cave belonged to the Musée Volkswrecks in St. Sulpice, Switzerland.
The cars in the caves are those ‘deemed unfit for public viewing’.
This explanation does raise more questions when you think about it.
Were these caves built up especially for this purpose?
How were the cars put in there? Was someone tasked with driving them inside the mountains?
At any rate, but these cars are still well worth checking out.

Sure, they’re slightly dusty on account of being underground for 20 years, but they’ve still held up remarkably well.
The high ceilings of the caves and the eerie darkness remind us of the Mines of Moria from Lord of the Rings.
And the cars within it present some questions of their home.
For example, there was a Volkswagen sporting some BMW rims.
That alone would raise some eyebrows.
