A family in California who were left devastated after thieves stole their treasured 1973 Chevy Corvette are now celebrating after it was recovered thanks to a social media campaign.

The vintage vehicle was a way for East Bay resident Michael Dodge to feel a connection to his late father.

The Corvette had been bought new by Michael’s dad and held happy memories of family life through the decades.

So when a group of thieves stole the car, Michael and his family were understandably heartbroken.

The Chevy Corvette held a lifetime of memories for the family

Michael was at home earlier this month when he got a call from the cops telling him there had been a break-in at his Benicia business and he immediately feared the worst.

He raced out to assess the damage and check in on his prized possession – but it wasn’t good news.

“When I came through the door there and looked out in the warehouse and it was empty, I think I just screamed, ‘No!'” Michael told CBS News

“Just absolute horror.”

Michael had fond memories of his late father using the vintage ‘Vette throughout his school years and beyond and was left floored by the theft.

But Michael’s wife and daughter soon hatched a plan and decided to launch a social media campaign to try and get ‘Old Lady Blue’ home.

“It’s like a Christmas miracle”

Incredibly, the plan worked and within a few days he got a call from someone who knew where the Chevy Corvette was.

The caller was from nearby Colfax, so Michael put in a call to the local police who were able to collect the car and tow it to safety.

Michael and his family were than able to head out to the tow yard and pick it up.

“It is like a Christmas miracle,” Michael’s wife Gwynneth told CBS News

“This is the best Christmas gift we could ever get. We don’t need anything else. We’re set.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen car lovers refusing to give up hope when it comes to finding their stolen vehicles.

One man spent two whole decades looking for his 1967 Mustang before eventually finding it.

And this guy was incredibly lucky to be able to track down his stolen $150,000 BMW M8 thanks to a couple of Apple AirTags.
