The Ferrari Luce has been revealed as the brand’s first EV, and it’s going to be unlike any other Ferrari that’s come before it.
Ferrari has a rich heritage built on internal combustion engines, but the brand is now steering toward a new chapter in its evolution.
An electric powertrain isn’t the only new thing in the Ferrari Luce either, the car is also getting a fresh interior created by Apple’s former design boss.
In a collaborative effort with Jony Ive, the Ferrari Luce is five years in the making, and the attention to detail is out of this world.

A first look at the Ferrari Luce
Codenamed the ‘Ferrari Elettrica‘, the first EV from the brand is one of the most anticipated cars in the industry, with many other supercar manufacturers reluctant to take the electric plunge.
Having shared slivers of information about the car so far, namely the chassis and powertrain (pointing to a sizeable car), the Italian company has now showcased its work on the interior.
Announcing its name, the Ferrari Luce, a short video showcased how the interior has been catapulted into the digital age, with a blend of touchscreens and physical controls.

The tech on show is sublime, with a movable 10-inch central touchscreen (similar to an iPad).
Anodised aluminum and strengthened glass from specialist firm Corning ensure that the control system and the odometer panel are glare-free.
Ferrari is holding onto tactile switches
One of the biggest changes from your typical car is the shift towards tactile switches to control systems, including air conditioning.
Ivy says this design decision makes the Ferrari Luce feel ‘alive’.

“One of the things that we felt very strongly about was we wanted to explore an interface that was physical, and that was engaging, and that was to take the most powerful parts of analogue displays and combine them with digital displays,” he said.
Ivy also stated that the iPhone was influential in this design.
He said he wanted to make the physical controls easy to use and away from screens.
Retro-inspired OLED clusters supplied by Samsung, a three-spoke steering wheel created in partnership with Piero Ferrari, and hand-crafted leather seats top off the look.

Have a look at what you could have had, Apple
The new Ferrari Luce EV is said to be ‘lighting the future of the company’.
But it could have been a very different story.
Apple once had Jony Ive but failed to tie him down for its own Apple car, which subsequently fell off the face of the earth.
The Apple car could have been the pioneering EV of the modern era, but that energy is now harnessed by the Ferrari Luce.

Ferrari’s first EV also has a new exhaust that the carmaker says will sound like a ‘real’ engine, easing its fans into the electric era when it arrives later this year.
