On paper, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale is one of the fastest and most powerful production cars out there.

The Italian marque obviously feels that the SF90 Stradale isn’t powerful or quick enough, though.

A mysterious SF90 Stradale prototype has been spied testing at Fiorano Circuit – and it looks like a more hardcore variant.

For obvious reasons, Ferrari is keeping its cards close to its chest so official details are scarce, but the prototype is being referred to as the Ferrari SF90 VS or Version Speciale.

This isn’t the first SF90 Stradale prototype to be spied testing at the circuit, as a number have been spotted over recent months.

This one was lightly camouflaged making it that bit easier to spot differences between the current SF90 Stradale and what the finished SF90 VS might look like.

To start with, the front end of the SF90 VS is sporting a more pronounced splitter to aid the car’s aerodynamics.

While the rear of the prototype appears to be unchanged, that’s probably not going to be the case with the finished product, as various aerodynamic changes are bound to be made.

Ferrari could even go down the route of adding an elongated tail, similar to what McLaren has done with its ‘Longtail’ models.

Powertrain upgrades

The current Ferrari SF90 Stradale boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, generating a mighty 986 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

One of the fastest production cars out there, it’ll rocket from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in a scant 2.5 seconds.

We fully expect there to be a slight increase in horsepower and torque for the SF90 VS.

We also expect to see carbon fiber extensively used to help shed weight and further improve performance.

Ferrari SF90 VS price

The current SF90 Stradale is priced at $625,000, so expect the more powerful and lighter Ferrari SF90 VS to be significantly more.

Who knows when it will hit the roads, but the SF90 VS is likely to be unveiled sometime during 2023.
