A Florida billionaire was offered $3.5 million for one of five Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach editions, but the hypercar is so rare that it is priceless.

The Porsche 918 is one of the ‘holy trinity’ of hypercars that also includes the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, and all three are still highly revered in 2025.

Florida billionaire Howard Panes posted on his Instagram account photos and videos of his Porsche 918 Weissach, finished in a stunning Guards Red.

But as just one of five in the world, he has turned down multiple offers for the hypercar.

What makes this Porsche 918 so rare?

What exactly is it that makes this particular Porsche 918 such a special hypercar?

According to the billionaire, this is one of a handful of examples of the 918 finished in the Guards Red color.

The addition of the Weissach package helps to make it even rarer, and one of only five.

Panes has said he has had offers of up to $3.5 million for the incredible supercar.

However, the rarity of the car has meant he has turned down every single offer.

Panes has said that the car is ‘priceless’ and doesn’t believe he will ever sell it.

He caveats that, though, by saying ‘everything’s for sale’ at the end of the day, and for the right price.

Many still love the Porsche hypercar

While faster and more expensive cars have come and gone, there is still a lot of love for the 918.

The Porsche 918 Spyder burst onto the scene in 2013 and was produced until 2015.

Under the hood was a hybrid 4.6-liter V8 making 875hp.

The car also had two electric motors, and it had a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS).

Both the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari had similar setups to the German hypercar.

While McLaren and Ferrari have since revealed successors to their hypercars, Porsche has not introduced one for the 918.

The Mission X, however, is set to be the successor, with the electric concept revealed in 2023.

What form the final production car takes, though, remains to be seen.

Given the legacy of its predecessor, it will have a lot to live up to.
