The Ford Bronco is one of America’s most famous and well-known cars.

It also happens to be one of its most interesting cars currently on sale, for one specific reason.

The current generation Ford Bronco comes with a seven-speed manual gearbox.

But it is the only car in America with this particular gearbox.

Ford Bronco revives the manual gearbox

Automatic transmission cars are very much the norm in the USA.

In fact, manual gearbox cars are a real rarity.

The Ford Motor Company, thankfully, disagrees with the automatic transmission obsession.

The Blue Oval marque is one of America’s most iconic car brands.

It is also responsible for one of America’s most iconic SUVs – the Bronco.

First introduced in 1965, the Bronco was in continuous production for 31 years.

Having been discontinued in 1996, the Bronco made a comeback in 2021.

Following a 25-year absence, the Ford Bronco has been very popular since its return.

Ford has taken a very interesting approach with the iconic SUV.

It offers both manual and automatic transmission options for the Bronco.

Getrag-sourced gearbox comes with cool feature

It is the manual gearbox that is the fascinating focal point of today’s story.

The Getrag-sourced gearbox is actually a seven-speed manual gearbox.

On the road, the transmission operates as a regular, six-speed gearbox.

Once you head off the beaten track, however, it becomes a different story.

In case you’ve never seen the Ford Bronco gearbox, it comes with a cool feature.

At the bottom left of the gear knob, you will find the letter, ‘C’.

That ‘C’ stands for ‘Crawler’ – and it does something very interesting.

When one runs into rough terrain, flicking the gear shifter over to ‘C’ allows you to traverse it with ease.

Because the ‘Crawler’ mode has a much shorter gear ratio, it allows the Bronco to drive at a much slower speed.

This means that the Bronco can safely pass through almost any terrain imaginable.

So, if you need to travel over a mountain, the Ford Bronco might just be the car for you.
