Ford announces new EV pickup for 2027

Last month, Ford created yet another stir when it revealed some very interesting plans.

More specifically, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed plans for a new affordable truck.

So what’s so exciting about the Blue Oval building yet another truck?

Well, that’s where the intrigue has set in among the masses.

Because this is not set to be like any other truck.

Set to arrive in 2027, the new vehicle will be built on a new, universal EV platform – using an ‘assembly tree’ rather than an assembly line.

Truthfully, the only detail we actually don’t know is what this new EV truck will look like.

It appears that Jim Farley has heard all the questions surrounding the truck and is providing some answers.

But the answer might not be quite what you were expecting.

How the new Ford truck will be different

Never one to shy away from a media opportunity, the Ford CEO recently spoke about the truck.

And speaking on the Verge’s Decoder podcast, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed some interesting details.

“Our first body style will be a pickup, but it’s really not a pickup,” the Ford CEO said.

“I would say it’s a new silhouette. What I mean by that is that it has more room than a RAV4, the best-selling passenger car in the US.

“It is very fast, it’s rear-wheel drive, it’s super fun to drive, and it has a digital experience that no one’s seen – at least that we’ve seen – even in China.”

So, if the new Ford EV pickup isn’t actually a pickup – then what is it?

This reveal has led many to speculate if it could be a new version of the Ranchero.

For those of you under a certain age, allow us to explain.

The Ford Ranchero was Dearborn’s competitor to the Chevrolet El Camino back in the day.

These types of vehicles were sort of car-based pickup trucks, and provided a unique hybrid.

Perhaps it is this type of vehicle that Ford envisions being extremely popular in the market.
