Ford is one of the largest car companies anywhere on the planet.

The Blue Oval brand has a presence in nearly every corner of the globe.

Recently, it held a design competition for school students in China.

And what they came up with is genuinely, staggeringly beautiful.

Ford launches design competition in China

In December 2024, Ford launched a car design competition for school students in China.

The contest was named ‘Mustang: A Grand Tour of Re-imagination’ and was widespread.

It included 25 students from 22 different colleges and universities around the country.

And in February, eight of the 25 students were selected to head to Ford’s design center in Shanghai.

They were invited with the goal of designing the muscle car of the future.

“We are honored to have attracted so many outstanding young design talents to this very rare training opportunity,” Max Wolff, Ford’s Design Director, said.

Mr Wolff is the man who directly supervised the program in question.

Mustang concepts are nothing short of incredible

The program, which is an excellent idea in its own right, sparked some incredible creativity.

What made the results even more fascinating, though, was that the ideas were all rooted in reality.

When crafting their designs, the students worked with Ford engineers to ensure that their concepts could be made in real life.

Out of the eight students who were invited to Shanghai, three of them were shortlisted for that honor.

Liu Sizhuo represented Tsinghua University, and presented the idea of the Mustang Mach-S Concept.

His idea reimagined the Mustang as a shooting brake in order to put a practical spin on the icon.

The second finalist was Xie Yian, who created the Mustang Super Utility Concept.

This is a pickup truck with an all-electric powertrain – but styled in the model of a coupe.

Lastly, Lai Yushun came up with the Mustang Hyper Tandem Concept.

Lai’s design saw the exterior inspired by motorsport, while the interior drew inspiration from fighter jets.

Reports suggest that all three designs will be presented at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.

And frankly, we cannot wait to see them, because they look fantastic.
